I've spent most of my entire life in Mexico City and have visited the U.S. many times for holidays, mostly to Miami. Despite not living there, my only negative encounters with police have been in the U.S. I'm not saying police in Mexico are better or worse and while it's true that I've been in situations where they have tried to pressure me into bribing them, the psychological strain caused by U.S. police on me is far greater from what I've lived in my home country. For example: I've been wrongfully arrested for "public intoxication" while I was only walking with a friend in a bar area. I'm not kidding! Only walking! Then went to court to get that charge removed from my record and saw the cops lies written on the documents of the arrest. I got a cop who behaved unnecessarily aggressive and almost break my car's window for accidentally "cutting him off and run a stop sign" Watch how my dad gets yelled at for not having a Florida driver's license and so many other moments of arrogant behaviour to list here.

That's ridiculous! Cops get E! That was atrocious treatment that could have ended his life! She should have been charged!

Police do this to all people, but it’s worse for marginalized groups like homeless people, drunks, and people of color. Unfortunately, those are the people that no one believes, so it will continue to happen.

there are no complicated legal issues here ,if they have reason to believe you are stealing they can all the cops ,you dont have to show a damn thing to anyone even the cops ,if they dont like it they can trespass you but without RAS of a crime the 4th amendment protects you ,probable cause is not needed to detain or search anyone ,only RAS which is a lower standard

I had a much better interaction with police in a similar situation. My boss is always at my store before opening. I have the back door code, but not the alarm code. So I walked in like normal. The alarm went off. She didn't pick up when I called. I figured I better go to the parking lot to be as visible as possible. They came. Were reasonable, believed me. Didn't ask for ID. Hope these channels are making a difference.

When a Citizen commits any violation, Justice is swift... When Law Enforcement commits crimes against a Citizen, Justice will take decades and is nearly always "Settled" without any admission of wrong-doing.

I don’t agree with the F for the police. What was the time frame between the call for service and the time they contacted him? Was there someone watching him to say he wasn’t drinking after he parked and pulled the firearm so I don’t believe you have drinking and driving unless you can show he didn’t drink since the vehicle stopped. Now there is Actual Physical Control while intoxicated but courts may not always agree with that and just because they smelled alcohol doesn’t mean he is intoxicated to the point of a DUI. Now if there is a statute in New Mexico that states you can’t have possession of a firearm while intoxicated than yes that can be addressed which reviewing NWS I see 30-7-4A2 is a petty misdemeanor Now I’m sure ATA won’t lose sleep over the fact I disagree with his grade for PD but just food for thought.
